DataCamp Training Helps Fellows Drive Decisions with Data

From education to healthcare and supply chain management to process improvement, enFocus Fellows lead projects across sectors. While each project presents its own challenges and opportunities, one thing is common: data. Fellows collect, clean, or analyze data for nearly every project. The insights gained from this data allows our team to make and implement changes to drive impact in the region, save organizations time and money, make processes more efficient, and work to build stronger communities.

When Fellows join enFocus, their experience with data ranges from a basic understanding of spreadsheets all the way to data science expertise. To help support Fellows with project assignments and professional development, enFocus offers lunch and learn training sessions and self-paced learning opportunities through a partnership with DataCamp Donates.

Marty, a new enFocus Fellow, has already put DataCamp to use. “DataCamp is great! It is extremely easy to use and goes at whatever pace that suits your needs. The courses are a healthy balance of detailed and easy-to-understand content. This helps me build the skills I need to be more confident with respect to data analysis, especially for projects at enFocus.”

DataCamp has also provided practical experience to Calla, another Fellow, on a new project. “I had initially wanted access to DataCamp just for generic professional development purposes, but when I was assigned a project that would require a bit of Python experience, it became super helpful. It's allowed me to understand the basics of the coding language--something that I usually would run away from screaming--in an easy and gamified manner.”

For Elijah, DataCamp has served as the perfect beginner’s guide to all things data. “I've never really done much coding or advanced data analysis (making Pivot Tables in Excel is about the extent of my skills!), but I have always wanted to learn. Not having advanced data skills is definitely a big gap for me, but DataCamp is the perfect way to help bridge it. DataCamp offers a great selection of courses for total beginners like me, as well as more advanced courses, practice sessions, and projects to work on. They also provide assessments to check your skill level and recommended courses based on the results. Having more robust data handling skills will undoubtedly help me gain more insights when I do work with data and enhance the analytical toolbox I can bring to the table on any problem. I anticipate DataCamp being a big part of my professional development for the near future!”

Sheng, an Innovation Fellow entering the second year of his fellowship, has been a prolific DataCamp participant over the past several months. “Out of all the online data science courses I have completed, DataCamp is easily my favorite. I am currently pursuing a Data Scientist certification. It includes extensive courses from data cleaning and preparation to statistical modeling, and you can choose to do it in either R or Python. Something I find unique and extremely helpful are the projects and case studies. Applying data analytics in real-world scenarios is something I always struggle with because of how messy real-world data tends to be, but the case studies gave me insights on how to deal with messy data. DataCamp also has a job page that helps users locate data related jobs. I give DataCamp a 10-out-of-10 and recommend it to anyone trying to improve their data analysis skills.”

Through a program called DataCamp Donates, DataCamp partners with community organizations, large and small, and gives them the tools to equip learners to learn data skills and get jobs. DataCamp Donates learners receive  access to over 360 courses, certifications, tracks, competitions, and ready-to-use templates and datasets. DataCamp breaks down barriers to entry for those with limited resources who want to learn to code, get certified, and join the data science community.

enFocus’ commitment to providing cutting edge tools and learning opportunities are part of our commitment to our Fellows to not only ensure their success with projects, but support their skill development.
